Past and Future
Over 120 years of service as a church in a community is a wonderful achievement. From a humble beginning in 1894 we acknowledge the faithfulness, commitment and determination of those early Christian families who helped to establish the foundations of the present church fellowship.
Cottage meetings were held throughout the district before it was decided to meet in a central location in Boonah – the home of T F Stubbin – until a modest chapel was opened in Park Street in 1901.
From a membership of 48 in the 1890’s, the church family has experienced cycles of growth and decline, with World Wars I and II having a major impact on the church. As well, flood and drought have influenced the outlook of the church families. However, all these problems strengthened the faith of the Christian community and developed a strong dependence on the Lord.
Over 120 years on, several descendants of these pioneering families are still worshipping with the Boonah Church of Christ.
Establishing an Aged Care facility in Boonah was a major achievement and the Fassifern Retirement Village bears testimony to the links between the church and the community to bring this concept to fruition.
Our church moved to the current site on Coronation Drive in 1992. A strong population growth in the Scenic Rim region and planned expansion of the Fassifern Retirement Village have placed our church in an ideal location to have an impact on the wider community in the future.
We look forward in anticipation - the future in God’s hands.
